Hats in the media or news was not as big this week with no Royal Ascot but there were still a few interesting articles.

An article on Vietnamese hat makers, of a Calgary Milliner’s hat being selected for the Kentucky Derby Museum, the Dior fashion show and its hats, how golf hats have changed over time and a man who still makes cowboy hats the old fashioned way. Also of note in the business news was that there was a increase in hat sales from previous years from Royal Ascot.

I didn’t expect to find much on youtube on making hats. I did, however, find quite a lot of interesting videos from milliners and videos on making hats. I have listed below the four I like the most.

  • Louise Green’s Milinery – I liked this one because it showed what can be done with hats and gave a bit of the history on the Millinery.
  • YouTube – Torb and Reiner hat making – I find Waltraud’s passion for hats inspiring. This is a short video with her talking about her passion for hats.
  • How to make a cool beret hat – I really like this hat, the instructions are easy to follow and well explained – I will have to have a go at making one (look for this in a future post).
  • 18 ways to wear a beanie – I like this video as it shows there is more than one way to wear a hat.
There are a number of other hat posts on youtube from various professional milliners and not so professional milliners – such as the video on making a hat from pizza boxes. It is a good resource that I will have to keep an eye on.
